Lynn Herring explains why GH's Lucy is absent

General Hospital actress Lynn Herring (Lucy Coe) sets the record straight on her status with the ABC soap.

For those wondering where fan-favorite General Hospital character Lucy Coe has been, wonder no more. The quirky gal's portrayer, Lynn Herring, has an explanation for why she's been absent since last spring.

The actress took to her Facebook fan page with a message for loyal viewers. "Thank you all for thinking of me ..... and Lucy, of course, it means so much!" she begins. "I am loving ranching and Museum-ing (is that a word?) right now. I do miss playing Lucy but I am not interested in a line here or there or a day once in awhile. All the years of happiness and satisfaction I had playing Lucy are too important to me, and I would never want to belittle all the great memories I have of her adventures."

But, she continues, "If Frank [Valentini, GH's executive producer] and the writers need Lucy for a story or a firm connection in the show then I will jump out of my saddle and come running for sure."

As for fans' questions surrounding the show's annual Nurses Ball, Herring says she's in the dark. "Not sure if General Hospital is doing the Nurses Ball again this year and if they are, if Lucy is even included. You will be the first to know when I find out!" she writes. "Thank you for all your interest, support and fun comments! Got to head back outside. The river washed out many of our fences and the cows are taking advantage..."

Herring joined GH in the role of Lucy in 1986 and has played the character on-again, off-again since then.

What do you think about Herring's message to fans? Do you miss Lucy in Port Charles? What kind of storyline do you think could bring her back?
