NBC Renews Passions

NBC has announced that Passions has been renewed through the 2003 - 2004 season. The announcement came on January 17th from NBC President Jeff Zucker.

Passions debuted in 1999, but it remains one of the bottom-ranked soaps. Currently, the show ranks ninth out of ten soaps. While the overall ratings might seem dismal, an NBC spokesperson claims that Passions is "daytime's fastest-growing series," up 17% compared to last year, in the women 18-49 demographics group. That group is a key group targeted by advertisers.

Some fans of the now-cancelled Another World are critical of Passions' performance, noting that even at its worst, Another World still managed to pull in higher numbers than Passions. Passions is produced by NBC Studios in association with Outpost Farms Productions, Inc. Since NBC owns the soap, it means that profits need not be shared with another party.
