Netflix has cast former The Young and the Restless star Noemi Gonzalez (ex-Mia Rosales) in its highly anticipated new drama Selena: The Series.

Mexican-American actress Noemi Gonzalez gave The Young and the Restless viewers a dose of serious talent when she played a brief arc as Rey Rosales' wife, Mia Rosales, earlier this year. And now she's going to be showing off her skills as part of the cast of the upcoming Netflix series Selena: The Series.

The biographical drama is set to tell the story of Selena, a Mexican-American singer and songwriter, famous for hits like "Bidi Bidi Bom Bom" and "Dreaming of You," who was murdered by her manager/fan club president around the time she shot to international fame. It is being produced by Campanario Entertainment with Selena's father and sister, who have authorized this version of the late singer's story.

The Walking Dead alum Christian Serratos is set to play Serena, Desperate Housewives alum Ricardo Chavira will be playing Quintanilla patriarch Abraham, and Gonzalez will be playing Suzette Quintanilla, Selena's sister and best friend.

"Beyond excited, grateful, and blessed... Stay tuned y'all!!!" Gonzalez tweeted about her new role along with the official Netflix teaser of the series.

Says Jaime Davila, president and cofounder of Campanario Entertainment, "Selena is an inspirational figure who's transcended generations. At Campanario, we've always known it was crucial for this series to find actors with the right mix of talent, charisma, and passion to honor Selena's legacy and the story of her family. Our casting director Carla Hool and her team have found an amazing cast to depict the Quintanilla family, and we're sure fans everywhere will be captivated yet again by Selena's incredible life."

Netflix has listed Selena: The Series as a "two-part limited series" and "coming of age story" that will follow Selena's journey as her wildest dreams become reality. It is set for a 2020 release.

Gonzalez joined the cast of Y&R as Rey's (Jordi Vilasuso) estranged wife, Mia, in November 2018. The character shook up the canvas when she cheated on Rey with his brother Arturo (Jason Canela) -- not for the first time -- which didn't exactly make her the most likable character on the canvas. After leaving Y&R in April of 2019, Gonzalez went on to appear in the TV series Dark/Web and the film The Tax Collector.
