Passions' alum Dana Sparks (ex-Grace Bennett/Faith Standish) has joined The Young and the Restless in a new role connected to Chelsea's (Melissa Claire Egan) medical storyline.

The Young and the Restless is bringing a new doctor to the canvas, and the CBS soap opera has turned to Passions alum Dana Sparks (ex-Grace Bennett/Faith Standish) to take on the new Genoa City character.

According to Soap Opera Digest, the actress has stepped into the recurring role of Dr. Lena Cavett, a specialist who works with stroke patients. Adam (Mark Grossman) calls the doctor to help Chelsea (Melissa Claire Egan), who's currently immobile due to her recent health struggles.

Says Sparks of Dr. Cavett, "[She's] direct but kind. I play her as doing the best she can to help the situation, whether it's being honest or encouraging. She's very grounded and in a very understanding, compassionate way."

Fans can look for Sparks' first appearance as Dr. Cavett on Thursday, January 7.

Sparks starred on Passions from 1999 to 2007, but she also has a long list of primetime shows to her name. Some of her other credits include Cover Up, Falcon Crest, L.A. Law, Melrose Place, and JAG.
